About

This website was created in the hope that it might inspire the scientific community to further investigate the biodiversity and evolution of anemonefishes, as well as to provide a readily available source of information for aquarists and naturalists. Since this website cannot be considered as a formal taxonomic revision, the scientific and common names put forth here should be treated as provisional for the time being.

This research is indebted to the earlier studies of Dr. Gerry Allen, who pioneered our current understanding of this group, as well as the exemplary efforts of citizen scientists such as Matt Pedersen and Yuri Barros, who independently deduced much of what I discuss here. And this work would also have been nearly impossible without the countless photos and videos shared by recreational divers. I’ve probably spent more hours tracking down images of these damn fishes than any sane man should, but I suppose it was time well spent.

Enjoy,
Joe Rowlett
