We’ve run into an interspecific anemonefish trio once before, but this time the participants are a bit different. We have the same Indonesian Clark’s Anemonefish (A. cf clarkii) and Pink Skunk Anemonefish (A. perideraion) as before, but a new friend has joined in—the Indonesian Saddleback Anemonefish (A. cf polymnus).

This little piscine cohabitation was observed at the Lembeh Strait of Northern Sulawesi, not far from the previous example at Bunaken. Clearly, the lack of high-quality coral reef habitat is forcing these species into their current situation. It would be fascinating to see habitats like this surveyed for this phenomenon. How does competition for a favored host anemone species drive their distribution and abundance in suboptimal environments?
